Money and property

We can help you with concerns about provincial and municipal government bodies in Ontario that handle things like:

  • Alcohol and cannabis sales
  • Gaming
  • Landlord and tenant disputes
  • Property taxes

Our services are confidential and free.

 

For example, we can help solve problems with:

  • Long waits for hearings about tenants or landlords
  • Services for people who are unable to manage their own money and property
  • Lottery winnings
  • Property assessments
  • Provincial tax rebates for First Nations or other groups

 

You can complain to us about:

  • Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO)
  • Landlord and Tenant Board, and other tribunals
  • Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO)
  • Ministry of Finance
  • Ministry of Infrastructure
  • Ministry of the Attorney General
  • Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC)
  • Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (OPGT)
  • Assessment Review Board
  • Consent and Capacity Board
  • Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS)
  • Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG)
  • Ontario Securities Commission

Make a complaint


There are some things we can’t do. We can’t:

  • Reverse decisions made by elected officials
  • Overturn tribunal decisions
  • Take complaints about private companies like banks, insurance companies or investment firms

If we can’t help, we’ll tell you who can.

Waiting to be heard

A single mom of a child with a disability contacted us in desperation. She had purchased a new house, but the tenants living there refused to move out, and owed more than $20,000 in rent.

After members of her family complained to our Office, we discovered the OPGT had made numerous errors in managing a woman’s affairs – failing to pay her mortgage and utilities for several months.
