Employment

We can help with your concerns about employment and training in Ontario. Our services are confidential and free. 

For example, we can help you with:

  • Proof of your credentials for skilled trades
  • Delays or issues with compensation if you were injured at work
  • Figuring out how to file claims or appeal decisions under the Employment Standards Act
  • Employment or apprenticeship programs run by the Ontario government,

 

You can complain to us about:

  • Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
  • Employment Practices Branch
  • Ontario Labour Relations Board

  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
  • Fair Practices Commissioner (the WSIB’s internal ombudsman)

There are some things we can’t do. We can’t:

    • Labour unions

A man contacted our Office in frustration after the WSIAT heard only one of several claims he had filed, when he was expecting to have them all heard at the same time.

Expense suspense

An injured worker had been approved by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) to see a doctor some distance from his home. He tried to claim travel and meal expenses from the WSIB, but both were denied.

Harsh choice

A provincial government employee complained to us that the practices of the Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Prevention Office (WDHP) were onerous and unfair. This office, part of the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, investigates complaints of discrimination and harassment in the Ontario Public Service.
