Ombudsman André Marin today commented on the announcement of criminal charges laid by Ontario Provincial Police in the wake of his investigation into “insider” wins at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin today announced an investigation into the role of Legal Aid Ontario in funding the defence of Richard Wills. The investigation will be conducted by the Special Ombudsman Response Team.

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin today welcomed new provisions of the Municipal Act, 2001 and the City of Toronto Act, 2006 that will allow people to complain to his office about closed municipal meetings if their municipality has not appointed its own investigator.

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin now has the jurisdiction to investigate complaints about The Scarborough Hospital and Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston, following the provincial government’s appointment of supervisors for both institutions.

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin today announced the launch of a systemic investigation into the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU). The SIU is the civilian agency responsible for probing police actions involving serious injury or death of members of the public. The SIU reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General.

Premier Dalton McGuinty has accepted the Ombudsman’s recommendations that the province ensure funding of such services for children of soldiers based at CFB Petawawa, Mr. Marin announced today.
